Job description of Big Data Architect :
To become a Big Data Architect, it’s recommended to have a level of education bac+5 (Master). The
programs taken are mainly Masters in Computer Science, Management, Statistics or Marketing, with an
option in the field of Big Data if possible. It is also possible to follow a training course in “école
d’ingénieurs” (a specialized engineering school) such as Télécom Paris.
The Big Data Architect acts before the organization of raw data processing. It creates and optimizes
data storage, handling and restitution infrastructures. He makes sure that the structure of databases
and frameworks is consistent so that it corresponds to the company's needs. The Big Data Architect also
collects and organizes the raw data. He is the one who provides the Data Scientist with the data to be
processed.
To execute his missions, the Big Data Architect must master the principal technologies of Big Data
(Hadoop, Spark, NoSQL,...) and understand the programming languages such as Java, Linux, and PHP. The
Big Data Architect must also master English and know how to collab with the rest of the team Data. The
employers always look for the employees that are organized and stress-résistant.
Most of the job offers are in the capital or in the Ile-de-France region. Some offers can also be found
in big cities like Toulouse. Companies that hire Big Data Architects are mostly digital companies, but
any company that is concerned about processing its data must also have at least one Architect on its
data team. This is why there are more job offers for this profession than for the other Data
professions.
The proposed principal missions in these job offers, usually are, the conception and the maintenance of
Hadoop’s architecture (or another framework) of the company.
